Easter Trip - Day 3

We visited the Cragside National Trust property today. This is a mansion and large grounds which was owned by Lord Armstrong, a Victorian innovator. It had one of the first hydroelectric lighting systems, and many other early electrical items.

We first went for a drive round the grounds, and stopped for a walk near a dried up lake.

Next we walked round a lake and through a rhododendron labyrinth.

We then visited the house itself.

Inside was all sorts of kitchen and bathroom equipment, and a lot of ornate rooms and halls.

We then went for a walk round the grounds near the house.

Down to the hydroelectric power station.

We then walked up to the tarn.

Next was the formal garden.

And finally the bird hide and its feeders.

After we finished at Cragside we went to view a second hand campervan just outside Morpeth. It was in great condition for its age, but was a little on the small side so we decided not to buy.

After we drove back to the hostel we went out to the Black Bull for dinner. We both had giant Yorkshire pudding filled with minced beef, they were huge portions.
