Easter Trip - Day 9

No photographs for today. We checked out of the hotel and went for a long drive, looking at some campervans.

We got as far south as Cannock, then drove all the way up the M6 back home, getting in about 5pm.

Easter Trip - Day 8

We had a tourist day in Sheffield today. First we had a breakfast roll at a baker across from the hotel, then we went to the cathedral which was just up the road.

We then had a look at the town hall.

Then Sheffield City Hall.

We then walked down towards the station.

Finally we went for a drink at the Sheffield Tap, a lovely pub built from the station waiting room, with its own brewery inside.

Later we went to KFC for dinner!

Easter Trip - Day 7

We left the houses in the morning, and drove to the car park at Hardcastle Crags. We walked along the riverside there, through the woods.

We stopped at the old weaving mill for a coffee.

We then walked further on, going up to the highest part of the crags.

It got quieter the further we went, we stopped for lunch at the highest point on the moors.

Then down the other side, past a nice old ruined house.

Back in Heptonstall we went for a final drink at the White Lion.

We said goodbye to the Bristol friends then drove to Huddersfield, where we'd arranged to view a campervan. It was a nice van but we decided not to buy it.

We went on to Sheffield, where we are staying in the EasyHotel in the centre. For a windowless room it's very cheap, but has everything we need.

In the evening we went for a drink and dinner at a Wetherspoons, the Bankers Draft. Scott had a rack of ribs and Shirley had vegetable lasagne.

We had a nightcap at the Head of Steam pub.

Easter Trip - Day 6

We went for a walk in Bronte Country today. First we drove to the car park at Haworth, which is known as Bronte village.

A lot of the signs are translated to Japanese, as there are a lot of tourists who come here from there.

First we walked across the moors to the trig point at Penistone Hill.

Then we carried on as far as Bronte Falls. Shirley sat in the Bronte Chair!

We then walked up to the ruined house at Top Withens, rumoured to be the inspiration for Wuthering Heights.

Then we went a bit further up to stop for lunch at some rocks.

We then walked back down past Penistone Crag to Ponden Reservoir.

We reached the road and walked to the Wuthering Heights Inn at Stanbury where we stopped for a pint.

Back at Haworth we had a walk round the old streets and another drink at the Kings Arms.

We drove back to the house in Hebden Bridge. We all went out for pre-dinner drinks at Calan's Micropub. Later we went out to a Thai restaurant, the Rim Nam Thai, where we had a selection of dishes, all were very good.

Easter Trip - Day 5

We all started walking from the house in Hebden Bridge in the morning, first walking through the village and over the Rochdale Canal.

We then walk up over farmland to a higher plateau with views back into the valley.

Eventually we reached Stoodley Pike Monument, a large black tower on the top of the hill. You can climb up to a viewing platform.

We then carried walking along the ridge before descending to Mankinholes where we looked at the church.

Then back towards the start, along the valley floor then along the canal back to Hebden Bridge.

We all went for a drink in the Fox & Goose.

Later we went out for pre-dinner drinks at a craft beer place called "Drink?". Later we had dinner at the Old Gate pub, Shirley and I both had burgers.
