Berlin - Day 3

We left before 9am again, and walked to the Zoo station. We caught the S-Bahn train south to Wannsee. There we walked to the lakeside and got the F10 ferry across to Alt-Kladow, a village on the other side. The ferry was almost empty, but looks like it might be used a lot by commuters.

We had a stroll around then caught a bus which went through the forest to Potsdam. We walked through Ruinenberg park, which has some strange fake ruins at the top of the hill.

From there we walked to Sanssouci  park, where there are lots of palaces built for the German/Prussian kings.

We first passed a windmill, then went down to look at Sanssouci palace itself, which is spectacular with terraces of grape vines and fig trees going up to it.

After walking through the park to the Friedenskirche, we went into Potsdam city. The first thing we did was to have currywurst with a beer at a cafe.

We then had a walk around the town, seeing the Peter and Paul Church and the Dutch quarter.

We then caught the tram to go further south to the Alter Markt area, where we went into the St. Nikolaikirche.

We got the train back to Berlin, going as far as Hackescher Markt for the DDR museum. This was a quirky interesting museum about life in East Germany.

We then crossed the river to museum island and went into the Berlin Cathedral. This was spectacular, and we went right to the top of the dome with great night views over the city.

After this we caught the 100 bus back home. We went to Lidl for provisions, and had pizza and garlic bread for dinner in the apartment.
