We got a taxi to Edinburgh airport at 3pm, and our Easyjet flight took off pretty much on time at 5pm. The flight was uneventful and landed at Berlin Schoenfeld just before 8pm German time.
We went to the tourist office and bought 5-day Berlin Welcome Cards, which gives unlimited public transport and discounts on some attractions, for 41 euros each. We also bought single tickets for this evening's train.
The express train wasn't running because of engineering works, so we had to take 2 S-Bahn trains which was slower. We then made the rookie mistake of not validating our tickets before boarding, so to be safe we got off at the next station to do it, meaning we added about 20 minutes into our journey.
We arrived at the Zoo station, and then went into a supermarket for some provisions. The apartment was about 15 minutes walk, we found it quite easily, AMC Apartments. It's a studio, well fitted out with everything we need. It's pretty warm though!
We went to bed after some beer and crisps.
