We drove to the north east coast today, parking at the southern end of Agios Georgios Pagon. First we had a stroll round the village and beach, then set off on our walk to the south.
The path went along the back of the beach to start with, then turned up into an olive forest.
We passed then entrance to a remote fish restaurant, then found a viewpoint looking back down to the bay.
A donkey path zigzagged up a cliff face then went through a gap to meet the road at a higher level. We walked through the village of Krini with its church in the main square.
Out the other side of the village we walked through the forest a bit more, then headed for the Angelokastro Byzantine Castle, which has a spectacular location on a rocky hilltop.
We were prepared to pay to go into the castle, but it turns out this weekend it is free to get into all museums. We walked up the steep staircase to get to the top.
The castle is mainly in ruins, but the views all around at the top are amazing. The resort of Palaiokastritsa, where we stayed last time we were in Corfu 14 years ago, is just to the south.
We walked back the way we came, this time noticing some caves on the way back down the cliff path.
On the beach near the village there was a turtles nest cordoned off.
Once we got back to the car we drove to nearby Afionas and parked to walk to the viewpoint overlooking the famous Porto Timoni double beach. This village was rammed with cars all doing something similar.
We walked along and down a rocky path to see the beach, which was quite spectacular.
We had a few spots of rain on the way back to the apartment in the car, but now there is no more rain forecast for the rest of the holiday.
Since the terrace of the apartment doesn't get the sun at this time of day, we moved our chairs across the courtyard and had a drink and some olives.
Later we went out for a drink at the Tudor Inn, then dinner at La Kantas just across the road from the apartment. Shirley had lamb Kleftico, and Scott had Kotsi, slow cooked pork shank. They were very good.
They gave us some free ice cream for desert.
