We had an early flight from Edinburgh airport, so we left the house about 4.30am, having dropped Oscar off at the kennels yesterday afternoon.
We parked in the long term car park and went into the airport, where there was a very large queue at security. We got through eventually but didn't have time to buy a coffee before the flight. We bought a Boots meal deal to eat later.
Once we boarded the plane the pilot announced there was a delay due to air traffic control, and we were 45 minutes late taking off. However we made up most of the time in the flight and we landed at Corfu Airport about 1pm. There were no delays going through passport control.
We had hired a car from Surprice who were to meet us at the airport, but the representative was about 15 minutes late. She took us to their nearby office and we picked up our car, a white Peugeot 208.
We drove to our apartment in Gouvia which was only about half an hour away. Officially check-in wasn't till 3pm but it was via keys in a keybox and all was ready when we got there, so we went in.
It's one of about 8 apartments and studios in a block called Helion Apartments. It has a terrace outside, though it doesn't get much sun. It seems to have just about everything we need in it.
We have to register our passports at the reception desk at the related Helion Resort which is a few hundred metres away. So after unpacking we walked up there, only to find reception closes at 3pm. It has a swimming pool and bar that's for our use as well, so we had a drink there.
We came across the first of many Corfu cats. And also some ducks who looked like they were going to swim in the pool.
We walked back and had an explore round the town, it has a lot of bars and restaurants, and a beach very close. We walked to the beach and had a drink at one of the bars there.
On the way back we did some shopping at one of the supermarkets, but it was only good for beer, snacks and a few bits and pieces.
We went back to the apartment for a rest.
Later we went out, first going to the Tudor Inn for a drink, it's on one of the main junctions and seems quite popular.
For dinner we went to a restaurant called The Best, which had good reviews. It's sort of a Greek fast food place, with good portions of the popular dishes.
We started with onion rings and baked feta. Shirley then had chicken Souvlaki, and Scott had fried streaky pork belly. It was all pretty tasty.
