Naples - Day 3

It rained today. We decided to drive to the Amalfi coast, hoping that the weather would clear up later. It turned into a bit of a nightmare journey, with many holdups in the traffic, we think it was because of the weather.

In the end it took us two and a half hours to drive what should have taken about one hour. And when we arrived at the start of the Amalfi coast road it was still pouring with rain and visibility was very poor.

Since the point of the drive was to get the views, we turned back and went to visit Sorrento.

We found a multi-storey car park near to the centre and parked there. Since it was still raining we walked quickly to the main street and went into a café for lunch.

We had a sandwich and beer meal deal which was nothing special, but at least we were warm and dry out of the rain.

After a while the rain eased so we went for a walk round Sorrento. In the pedestrianised streets there are loads of shops selling products for tourists, many of them lemon-based.

We made our way to a viewpoint high over the beach, looking down onto the various jetties that would no doubt be full of sunbathing holidaymakers in better weather.

We walked over to the next bay, which was a little cove with fishing boats.

We walked back into town and visited the cathedral.

In a display case it has an amazingly detailed nativity scene.

We drove back to the apartment. The roads were a lot better than they had been in the morning, bit it still took longer than normal to get back.

We went to the local DeSpar for some shopping, and later had pork steaks with chips, tomatoes and courgettes.
