We walked from the site downhill to the seafront, just under a mile away. It was quite foggy and we couldn't see much on the coast.
We went west along the promenade out of town. Just below the cliffs is a WW2 German blockhouse which was originally on top of the cliffs but subsequent erosion has caused it to slide to the beach and is balanced in a vertical position.
The walk took us along the top of the cliffs, then slightly inland through a forest. At one point we passed a lighthouse.
At the Saint-Valery church we stopped to have our lunch on the grass.
The limit of our walk was the Gorge des Moutiers, a steep gorge with steps down to a small beach.
Our way back was more inland, along lanes and through woods. At one point it started raining quite heavily, fortunately we found a bench in the woods that sheltered us until it stopped.
By the time we got back to Quiberville-sur-Mer the sun had come out, so we had a drink at one of the beach bars there.
The rain hadn't finished completely though, and we had another heavy downpour on our way back to the campsite which forced us to shelter under a covered gateway.
Much later it had cleared up and became sunny and warm. For dinner we had a barbecue of burgers, sausage, tomato, pepper, onion, rolls, coleslaw, and beetroot salad.
